In the heart of the Appalachians, on the border of Tennessee and Virginia lye's Bristol, a city of two States. Bristol is recognized as the "Official Birthplace of Country Music", by the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, in recognition for it's unique contribution toward the establishment of Country Music.

In 1927, the Victor Talking Machine Company chose Bristol, as the location to audition traditional mountain music singers and musicians, to record the very first national album release of this grass roots genre. Bristol was chosen because it was widely known that within the surrounding area, one could find a great number of talented people where the music had been an important part of their daily lives and heritage.

It was then that producer Ralph Peer proceeded to Bristol and set up shop here. He began posting audition notices that described the companies intent and welcomed anyone who felt they had traditional musical talent, to meet with him and schedule a time to audition.

Ralph Peer eventually auditioned several hundred local singers and musicians. At the end of his search he came up with two unique and distinctive acts, Jimmy Rogers of nearby Asheville North Carolina and the A.P. Carter family of the Hiltens Virginia community on the outskirts of Bristol. From these legendary recording sessions, held in August of 1927...these events are widely known and accepted as the "big bang" of Country Music, the Birthplace.
